Beginner and family-friendly introduction to wildlife tracking with local tracker Kirk Beckendorf and WRI Community Programs Educator Virginia Shoup . Join generations of trackers who have learned to tell the stories of our animal neighbors by studying the signs they leave behind. Even when we don't see the critters that move through the landscape, their tracks, scat, scratch marks, and more can tell us what they're doing. Throughout the day we will learn about tracks, gait, and other wildlife signs as we journey through the local area to see what stories wildlife signs can tell us. Our day will be mostly spent outside, with a couple of lessons inside. We will walk around the Wenatchee River Institute campus as well as travel to a couple of other local spots. Depending on group size, there will be the option to ride in the WRI van or carpool to other locations. Locations will be determined closer to the event to allow for the best opportunities, but will be within a 30 minute drive. Ages: Second grade and up. Adults without kids welcome too! Children 15 and younger must be accompanied by a participating adult. Please note that we welcome children and recognize that you know your child best. We will spend much of the day outside moving at a slow pace. Children should be able to stay with the group and be comfortable outside in variable weather, as well as be respectful of instructors and learning time.

Join artist, Amber Zimmerman for this one day workshop. Touch Drawing is a simple yet profound process that offers a way to connect creativity, feelings, and personal growth. This is an expressive and creative process that can be healing and rewarding. Even people who don’t think of themselves as artists can enjoy seeing their inner thoughts take shape on paper. Paper is placed over wet paint, and images are made by pressing fingertips on the page. The hands move in response to feeling and touch. This opens a way to express emotions and ideas. A series of drawings is created, with each one helping the artist go a little deeper into themselves. We will move through guided sessions, some of which will include sound bathing to help bring depth and connection. We will be using water-based oil paints. Aprons are provided, but comfortable clothing that is ok to get paint on is recommended. Open to Age 16 and up.

The Met: Live in HD, streamed from the Metropolitan Opera in New York City to the Snowy Owl screen. After years of anticipation, a truly unmissable event arrives as the electrifying Lise Davidsen tackles one of the ultimate roles for dramatic soprano: the Irish princess Isolde in Wagner’s transcendent meditation on love and death. Heroic tenor Michael Spyres stars opposite Davidsen as the love-drunk Tristan. The momentous occasion also marks the advent of a new, Met-debut staging by Yuval Sharon—hailed by The New York Times as “the most visionary opera director of his generation” and the first American to direct an opera at the famed Wagner festival in Bayreuth—as well as Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin’s first time leading Tristan und Isolde at the Met. Mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Gubanova reprises her signature portrayal of Brangäne, alongside bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny, who sings Kurwenal after celebrated Met appearances in Wagner’s Der Fliegende Holländer and Ring cycle. Bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green makes an important role debut as King Marke.

American composer Gabriela Lena Frank makes her Met debut with her first opera, a magical-realist portrait of Mexico’s painterly power couple Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, with libretto by Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright Nilo Cruz. Fashioned as a reversal of the Orpheus and Euridice myth, the story depicts Frida, sung by leading mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard, leaving the underworld on the Day of the Dead and reuniting with Diego, portrayed by baritone Carlos Álvarez. The famously feuding pair briefly relive their tumultuous love, embracing both the passion and the pain before bidding the land of the living a final farewell. Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts the Met premiere of Frank’s opera, a “confident, richly imagined score” (The New Yorker) that “bursts with color and fresh individuality” (Los Angeles Times). The vibrant new production, taking enthusiastic inspiration from Frida and Diego’s paintings, is directed and choreographed by Deborah Colker, following her remarkable 2024 debut staging of Ainadamar. The Met: Live in HD, streamed from the Metropolitan Opera in New York City to the Snowy Owl screen.

Spend two full days in the Cascades around Leavenworth, with professional wildlife tracker, naturalist, educator and author, David Moskowitz. This wildlife track and sign evaluation is offered through CyberTracker North America. David's approach to this class is highly interactive, engaging participants in identification and interpretation of tracks and signs. There is lots of time for questions and discussion built in. The style of this class is an excellent way to learn about animal sign and investigate real life tracking scenarios. Participants have the chance to achieve a certificate at the end of the class, awarded on three levels. Prior CyberTracker students can take this class to attempt evaluation at a higher level. CyberTracker courses provide an opportunity for quality, focused learning with some of the best trackers in the country. Courses are designed to further participant's tracking knowledge, as well as to rigorously test and document their current tracking skill set. Originally designed to help African Bushmen gain employment on game preserves, these courses also provide an internationally recognized certification of tracking ability. Certifications are an important credential for wildlife researchers and environmental educators as well as for people who want to test and push their own ability. Evaluations are entirely field based, striving to expose participants to the widest range of tracks and signs as possible. Discussions are encouraged, giving participants a chance to air their thoughts and receive individualized instruction.
